Gustave Courbet, Master of French Realism
Fridays, 10 a.m. - Noon
Facilitator: Anna Amelung
This course will offer a panorama of the life and works of Gustave Courbet (1819 – 1877), a French painter who led the Realism movement and strongly influenced artistic trends such as Impressionism, Cubism, and Expressionism. Considered the “bad boy” of French art, Courbet challenged academic expectations by creating shocking and controversial works more in tune with the social, political, and esthetic aspects of modernity.
