Below you’ll find answers to the questions we get asked the most about the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Washington University in St. Louis.

Membership

How much is tuition?

All-Inclusive Membership

Our All-Inclusive Membership is perfect for people who want to take advantage of the entire OLLI experience. This full academic year option entitles you to take up to three courses in the summer, fall, winter, and spring for a total of 12 courses. Members at this level can add extra study groups for $150 each. This membership also covers the $10 membership fee (beginning in fall 2019) and $25 surcharge for continuing courses (Reading The New Yorker, Reading The Economist and Current Events). Pay $675 or only $56 per course. This membership is available to purchase in the summer.

Cost: $675
The All-Inclusive Membership is non-refundable.

Annual Membership

The Annual Membership is for students who want to engage in a learning community but may travel in the summer and aren’t quite ready to participate at the All-Inclusive membership level.

Students are entitled to take either (a) two 8-week courses or (b) one 8-week and two 4-week courses in each of the fall, winter, and spring terms. Students who purchase the Annual Membership will be exempt from paying the $10 membership fee (beginning in fall 2019) and the surcharge on SIG courses.

The summer term, as usual, is not included and must be paid for separately. Unlike the all-inclusive membership, this does not include parking or summer term courses.

Cost: $460
The Annual Membership is non-refundable.

Individual Courses

Students can also sign up for courses individually, paying by term. Please note that the price of a single four-week course is $75 this summer. In the fall a single eight-week course will be $150, a reduction of 12%. However, there will be no discount for a second course.

$75 for each 4-week course / $150 for one 8-week course
A once-a-year $10 membership fee will be charged beginning Fall 2019. The membership fee is non-refundable.

Is there an age restriction?

Yes. To become a member of OLLI, students must be 50 years or older.

Are scholarships available?

We want our institute to be accessible to those who wish to participate. If you need financial help, please contact our OLLI Director, Katie Compton.

Please note: all requests are kept confidential.

Are memberships/courses refundable?

A student who wishes to withdraw from OLLI must do so in writing by the end of the first week of the term. Failure to attend a study group is not equivalent to withdrawing.

Courses

Can I earn credit that can be applied to a degree program?

Our courses are non-credit courses and can not be applied to a degree program. Our students take courses for the pleasure of learning.

Are there tests and grades?

No, there are no exams and no grades. There is no degree conferred — the only motivation is the love of learning.

How many courses can I take each semester/term?

Most OLLI students take one or two, but some take as many as five courses each term. It is up to you.

Getting to Class

Where do I park?

OLLI students may purchase an annual ParkSmart permit for the discounted annual rate of $75. This permit allows students to park:

  • in our West Campus Garage on the 4th, 5th and 6th floors (the RFID-enabled permit hangtags trigger the gate arms to open automatically),
  • in the ParkSmart area of the surface lot to the north of the garage, and
  • in the ParkSmart area on the surface lot near the Metro stop on Forsyth Blvd.

There are a limited number of “OLLI Only” parking locations in the West Campus garage for use with the ParkSmart permit.

Visit our Directions & Parking page for more information.

How do I purchase a parking permit?

Students can purchase a ParkSmart permit for $75 (July 1, 2018—June 30, 2019). Permits can be purchased either:

  1. online when you log in and register for courses (you will also need to fill out a parking form in the OLLI office) or
  2. in person at the OLLI office.

Students with a valid state-issued ADA placard and a ParkSmart permit may park in any handicap parking space in the West Campus garage.

Once you have filled out your WashU Vehicle Registration Form (also available in the OLLI office) and paid for your permit, you will be able to pick up your permit in the OLLI office.

Note: it can take 2-3 weeks for the Parking and Transportation Department to process requests.

What if I don't need permit for the full year?

Another option in the West Campus garage is to pay-per-visit. Visitors can pull a ticket to enter the garage and pay upon exiting. The rates are:

  • $2 for up to two hours
  • $4 for two-to-four hours
  • $6 for four-to-six hours
  • $9 for six-to-ten hours, and
  • $12 for 10-15 hours.
