How much is tuition?

Pay by the course

You must be an an OLLI member to take courses with us. Membership is just $10* per year. Our standard fees are $80 for 4-week courses and $160 for 8-week courses. Special Interest Groups often have extended sessions and cost just a bit more.

*Membership fee is non-refundable.

Is there a minimum age to join?

Not actually. OLLI is intended for learners over the age of 50, but younger learners may join if they choose.

Are scholarships available?

Yes. We want our institute to be accessible to those who wish to participate. If you need financial help, please contact OLLI Director Janet Gillow at jgillow@wustl.edu.
If you prefer, you may also complete an online application.

All requests are kept confidential.

Are memberships/courses refundable?

A student who wishes to withdraw from OLLI must do so in writing by the end of the first week of the term. Failure to attend a study group is not equivalent to withdrawing.

Courses

Can I earn credit that can be applied to a degree program?

Our courses are non-credit courses and can not be applied to a degree program.
If you are seeking courses with academic credit, please visit WashU School of Continuing & Professional Studies’ course offerings.

Are there tests and grades?

No, there are no exams and no grades.

What if I need to miss a class?

Because there is no course credit and no grades, there is no penalty for missing an OLLI course. Learners who need to miss class for religious reasons are especially encouraged to communicate with OLLI’s staff so that we can try to find alternate ways to share the missed course content.

Pro-rated course fees for partial class attendance are not possible.

Where can I purchase course books?

If there are required books to purchase for a course, the course description page will clearly state this information.  Course books may be purchased at a 20% discount through Washington University’s Bookstore.  Please email Mary at MaryM@wustl.edu.  Shipping fees apply if you wish to have your books sent to you.  Alternatively, most titles are available from the online or traditional retailer of your choice.

Getting to Class

Where do I park?

OLLI students may purchase an annual ParkSmart permit for the discounted annual rate of $75. This permit allows students to park:

  • in our West Campus Garage on the 4th, 5th and 6th floors ,
  • in the ParkSmart area of the surface lot to the north of the garage, and
  • in the ParkSmart area on the surface lot near the Metro stop on Forsyth Blvd.

There are a limited number of “OLLI Only” parking locations in the West Campus garage for use with the ParkSmart permit.

Visit our Directions & Parking page for more information.

How do I purchase a parking permit?

Students can purchase a ParkSmart permit for $75 (August 1—July 31). Permits can be purchased either:

  1. Online when you log in and register for courses (you will also need to fill out a vehicle registration form) or
  2. In person at the OLLI office.

Students with a valid state-issued ADA placard and a ParkSmart permit may park in any disabled parking space in the West Campus garage.

Once you have filled out your WashU Vehicle Registration Form (also available in the OLLI office) and paid for your permit, you will be able to pick up your permit in the OLLI office.

Note: it can take 2-3 weeks for the Parking and Transportation Department to process requests.

What if I don’t need permit for the full year?

Another option in the West Campus garage is to pay-per-visit. Learners may use the Passport Parking app on their smart phones. Please note that you must set up the app and link it to a credit card for payment. The rates are as follows:

  • $2 for up to two hours
  • $4 for two-to-four hours
  • $6 for four-to-six hours
  • $9 for six-to-ten hours
Can I take public transportation to get to class?

Yes. OLLI’s classrooms are located one block west of the Forsyth Station on Metrolink’s Blue Line.

How will I know if OLLI is closed for inclement weather?

If you are registered for an in-person class that is impacted by winter weather, OLLI staff will email you.  The homepage of website will be updated, as will the messages on staff voicemail.

The age of Zoom has complicated what it means to have a snow day.  Each winter term class that meets in-person will have a plan for whether winter weather means a Zoom day or class cancellation.  Due to these complexities, OLLI no longer posts class cancellation on local TV stations.
