Rhiannon Giddens is a bona fide genius, having been named a MacArthur Fellow. She founded The Carolina Chocolate Drops, a Black string band to bring back that tradition and in 2023 won the Pulitzer Prize for music for her opera, “Omar.” She literally embodies the musical culture of the USA being of African American, Scottish/Irish American, and Indigenous American and she has taken a deep dive into all of those traditions to form her own artistic voice.
