Numbers in the News: Recommended by 3 out of 4 Doctors
Thursdays, 10 am - 12 pm
Facilitators: Tom Mitchell
Are you convinced by the numbers you read or hear in the media? In this course, we will analyze examples chosen by participants of numerical or graphic data presented in the media (newspapers, magazines, TV, online, etc.). Each participant will submit an example weekly prior to class. Together, we will scrutinize and discuss the clarity, methodology, statistical significance, and practical significance. We will apply principles of mathematics, probability, statistics, scientific research methodologies, logic, and graphic art. No previous background in these disciplines is needed.
