From Icons to Perestroika: A History of Visual Culture in the Russian and Soviet Empires

Wednesdays, 10 am - 12 pm

Facilitator: Carol Rudie
Moderator: Cindy Turner-Johnson

Introduce yourself to this visually expressive world, unknown to many in the West.  Folk traditions and icons form the basis for this pictural history.  When Western-style art arrives, artists develop ways to engage people in paintings that build on and re-imagine both cultural streams.  Explore the richness of that heritage and learn why art from the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union should be part of the art enthusiast’s experience.
